Troop Committee

The troop committee, which is made up of registered parent volunteers, is the troop's board of directors and supports the troop program. The troop committee is responsible for:

  • recruiting and training adult leaders,

  • providing meeting facilities,

  • making sure there are adequate funds to support the approved budget plan,

  • obtaining, maintaining, and properly caring for troop property,

  • serving on boards of review, and helping with courts of honor.

 

Members of the troop committee must be 21 years old or older, registered with the BSA, and current with annual Youth Protection Training. For Youth Protection Training go to: www.myscouting.org

Volunteers Needed on a Year Round Basis

Registered adults with Youth Protection Training to:

  • Drive on Outings

  • Camp on Outings (Training is provided by experienced Assistant Scoutmasters)

  • Sit on Boards of Reivew

  • Chaperone a merit badge class

2015/2016 Troop Committee Volunteer Needs

Advancement Co-Chair

This job is shared by two adults. The role involves scheduling and coordinating Scoutmaster Conferences and Boards of Review for scouts advancing to Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star, and Life ranks. Volunteers would train with the current coordinator, Mr. Steve Sox.

 

Assistant Scoutmasters

ASM Training - Part I - Oct. 24, 2015 at LCPC

ASM Training - Part II - November 14-15 at Placerita Canyon, Santa Clarita

Assistant Scoutmasters are the heart and soul of the adult support of the boys in Troop 502. As an ASM you join our ASM corps, go on outings, and learn the 502 way of teaching boys to lead by coaching and mentoring, and letting the boys do the leadership. To learn more about becoming a 502 ASM come find an ASM at a Monday night Troop meeting, and we will tell you all about it. This is the best way to help develop our community's future leaders and have fun with other adults and the boys on great outings!

 

Advancement Data Input Chair

This job requires the adult to input the scouts' rank advancement, merit badge, and outing information into the troop's data site, TroopMaster. The adult should have good computer skills and be detail oriented. Volunteer would work with current Chair, Mrs. June Lam

 

Eagle Scout Coordinator

This job is ideally suited to, but is not limited to, an adult Eagle Scout. The Eagle Coordinator guides a Life scout through the process and the paperwork required to become an Eagle Scout. Volunteer would train with current chair, Mr. Jay Dick.

 

Medical Records Chair

The Medical Records Chair maintains medical forms for both youth and adult scouts. Medical records must be updated annually for each scout or scouter. Medical records must go with the adult leader for each outing. The Medical Records Chair makes sure this process runs smoothly. volunteers should have good computer skills and be detail oriented. New volunteers will train with Mrs. Michelle Demonteverde

 

Clothing Co-Chair

This job is is shared by either two or three adults. They are responsible for inventory, re-order, and sales of all troop apparel. Volunteers would work with current Chair, Sandee Watanabe.

 

Troop Patch Chair

This volunteer would sew the Troop patches onto the neckerchiefs that are presented to new Scouts. For a parent with a sewing machine this would be a job with a limited time commitment. There would be no direct interaction between the volunteer and the scouts.
